Sometimes crafting isn't that important...

My daughter hadn't been feeling well for a few days and Sunday night she decided to go to the ER. She didn't get out of there until almost 3am and they told her to come back before 8am on Monday. She called me a little before 8am on Monday and she was crying. They told her she had to have emergency surgery for a ruptured ovarian cyst and she was scared. With the convenience of cell phones I was next to her side in about 5 minutes of getting off the phone with her.

I was able to sit in the ER with her until they took her to surgery and somehow I saw my daughter be that little girl she use to be that always felt that Mom could make anything feel better. Even though I was crying inside because I knew she was scared and in pain I soon had her laughing and smiling about different things. At one point she said "so what happens if I don't want to have surgery?". In my best nonchalant voice I told her "well you have two choices...Surgery or Death. So if I were you I would be saying 'I'll take the surgery please'". She start giggling and said "GAH MOM! You don't have to put it that way". I told her "but those are your choices...you choose". And of course she said, with a smile on her face "I'll take the surgery please".

I am quite relieved to report that the surgery went well and she rested comfortably at home during the evening and night.

Due to the stress of the day I didn't get anything done to post and I may not have anything tomorrow depending on how today goes. But when it comes down to it...Sometimes crafting isn't that important!

  15. I am so glad she is doing so well - and, even though you were able to put on a brave face, I know how scared you were!!!! Our priority is ALWAYS our kids, isn't it?

You can always craft later - you need to spend the time with the family when it's important!

    Hang in there!

No smacking her upside the head either! lol I am so glad she is doing well and that she actually went to the ER, so many times now kids just dont think of what could be wrong and not to go to the Doc when they hurt. Have a great day with her!! :)

  38. You are so right, sometimes crafting isn't that important. Because just as she went into "little girl "mode you went into "Mother warrior" mode. and we will move mountains and take on any fear for our children. I am so glad you were there for her, she will look back on this situation with so much love for you !!! There is NOTHING like the Mother - Daughter bond !!!!!!

It is nice to be needed but better to be wanted. As our children become young adults it seems they need us more than want us. Your DD not only needed her mommy, but she wanted her mommy too. That has to make you feel good.

You both have my thoughts and prayers for a quick and complete recovery.

  51. Crafting can wait - family is more important!

I had a giant cyst - the size of a large grapefruit which they thought had ruptured and twisted...causing a life/death situation. when they got in, they found it had only began to leak... May blessings for your daughter's continued healing...and mom's peace of mind.

  74. Ohhhh Noooo! What a horrible, not to mention scarey, ordeal for your daughter to go through. I agree with you 100%, sometimes crafting just isn't all that important. It doesn't even come in at a close second when it's competing with beign a MOM.

How wonderful that you were able to be there for her ... she needed you more than ever. I am so happy to hear that all went well and that she is resting comfortably right there with you.

    Hugz to you both!

  75. Glad to hear your daughter is ok; great job there, Mom! Your story reminded me of a similar one I experienced a few years ago with my daughter who was in her mid-20s at the time, and totally independent. But, she ended up having some sort of anxiety/panic attack at work, and her boss called me to say that she was asking for me and wouldn't go to the hospital. I raced to her job (20 minutes away, but got there in 10), and by then she had calmed down a little bit. But, she said "Thank you for coming - I just needed my Mommy to take care of me and tell me it would be alright". We had a good laugh about it on the drive home, but it goes to show ya that no matter how old we are, sometimes we just need our Mom!

I hope your daughter has a speedy recovery - she's lucky to have you!

  76. OMG how scary. It is amazing to me how all a mom has to do is be there even with all of our modern technology, our job as a mom is still the same. Its hard sometimes because my mom isnt here with me anymore but she is always with me in spirit, but still I would like to be able to hug her sometimes too!

  79. So glad you could be there for your daughter!! 20 years ago the same thing happened to me and my mom came and picked me up at the college dorm in town and drove me to the hospital in the middle of the night (and all the while she thought I had a ruptured appendix!!). I'm a mom now (and my youngest is a 4yo girl) and I can totally relate. Plus, I just lost my mom last month... so, yes... there ARE more important things than crafting!! But just like your daughter- my mom LOVED everything I did ;-)

She is so blessed to have such a wonderful mother (and I'm positive she knows this is be true!). Hang in there and don't worry about posting or crafting - we will always be here for you. 83. I am so glad that everything turned out ok. I recently had knee surgery. They had a hard time starting my IV and had to try four times before getting it in place. I was so relieved to have my mom at my side rubbing my arm. My DH sat across the room looking very anxious. He loves me and doesn't do well when I'm in pain and he feels helpless. Moms on the other hand find a way to suck it up and put their children first. Shaine is blessed with a great mom!
